The Crown is one of the highest
rated British period pieces. It has outstandingly explained the royal
lifestyle. They built each character to perfection. The wardrobes, facial
features and even the body language all were very well matched to that of what we
have seen in the history. Definitely things weren't as dramatic as portrayed in
the series but there are bundle of truths too. This magnificent series of about
6 seasons start with the death of king of England who's only heir to the throne
is his eldest daughter whom we know by now as Queen Elizabeth II. As it a
tradition in the House of Windsor that the eldest born is the only rightful
heir to the thorn may it be boy or a girl. Father of Queen of England wasn’t
actually the first born he did have a elder brother. The eldest son of when was
enthroned to be the king of England he choose to marry a divorced women, which
was highly unacceptable according to the traditions hence even before his
coronation he was dethroned. Hence the second son had to bare the burden of the
Crown and later on the reign of the Queen began.
First half of the 6 seasons are
mainly about how Queen Elizabeth II copes up with all the pressure of family,
court, presidents and marriage. She always thought of herself to be not fit for
the position but Margaret her little sister to be one of. Both the sisters had
polar opposite personalities but had a very strong bond among them despite the
situation both had to face in the name of the crown.
Throughout the first half we can see
how they both try hard to be there for each other but sometimes Queen Elizabeth
had to back out due to the crown. In the later half of the 6 seasons we see the
entry of Princess Diana, who was adored almost by every as Prince Phillip was
as both were outsider but both had the same charming charisma to them. But
being adored outside and not inside the family made Diana face quite a bit
hardship in her married life too. Diana went through chorionic eating disorders
throughout her life due to depression. But she never backed down; she also
stood up to fight for what she believed in. Well the series might be more about
the reign of the Queen but my favorite characters have always been Princess
Margaret and Prince Phillips both were as fun as bore the Queen was, they both
had some ambitions to fulfil and both were quite a wild spirit. They both
shared a very good friendship among them too. But no doubt like all the other females
leads in the series Princess Margaret has a fair share of difficulties to due
to the honor of the crown. She wanted to marry a man she loved do dearly but
since he was divorced the queen couldn’t give her the blessing to marry which
broke her quite a bit but as life goes on she does find love but ends up being
alone again as Margaret was more of a wild spirit not to be tamed. Stopping the
spoilers here, if you are a period piece lover you will definitely enjoy this
piece as they depicted things of history is quite a unique way. I personally
really enjoyed the series and wish for it to continue by the generations. The
story might be a little slow for many but it’s a piece of art worth watching. I
highly recommend you all to watch it if you are into British period dramas.
This drama is a must watch if you’re on your winter vacation and looking for
something family drama to watch as we also see how the royal family is at its
best and at its worst.
