It’s a series in which a group of ambitious law students and their brilliant criminal defense professor become involved in a twisted murder plot that promises to change the course of their lives.

I haven't seen a series as intriguing as this one. It is filled with an amazing storyline, brilliant actors with amazing script. The suspense of each episode has been worth the view. All the characters were phenomenal in their roles. If I have to use one word to describe it, I will say "Amazing".

The focal point is of course the feisty Annalise Keating, a plain speaking no holds barred lawyer who also conducts a course at a leading university.

Her bunch of 5 key proteges Wes - Connor - Michaela - Laurel - Asher and eventually Oliver, her associate Bonnie, Frank, sometimes boyfriend Nate, sometimes girlfriend Eve, Mother Ophelia, lawyer friend Tegan, assorted clients and a bunch of other characters pivoting at various times around Annalise, form the plot, the sub plots and often convoluted add-on plots in the series.

A whole range of human relations have been touched upon during the course of this series.  Some of the characters are inherently good, some are totally obnoxious. Then there is that person who has actually committed the act of murder but has not the slightest compunction in throwing the entire blame on innocent people to save their ownself and will stop at nothing to advance their own prospects. Laurel who seems obsessed and paranoid at many times, actually lets the inherent good get the better of her at the end. And so does Nate.  Bonnie and Frank have deep and dark pasts but are mostly endearing. Annalise, a complex character, mostly wronged, often inherently good, often ruthless. Wes is likewise complex but not particularly endearing and his role was not enacted well. Same goes for Gabriel.

There are several loose ends in the series, such as the actual roles of the Castillos, what really happened to Mrs. C, and of course the last frames leaving it to the viewer to figure out whether Annalise stages her death and is actually having her time in the sun or what?

However, following are the things that I learnt from How to get away with murder:

  • Nothing knits different people of diverse background, ethnicity, believe, race, colour together than having secret kept in each other's hands. You don't want to spill out as you never can tell where and how they would get at you.

  • There is no permanent friend nor enemy. Only common interests keeps people together which also infer that the word loyalty is figurative, i.e., the me first syndrome is in everyone. If I will go down, I shouldn't go alone, and if I will rise also, I rise with my people, so we all feel the warmth of success together.

  • Nothing goes for nothing. There are consequences for every action and no sin or sinner will go unpunished. Karma is indeed real and the accurate revenge so far. No one escapes it.  Though, the name of series is“How to get away with murder but eventually non of those who committed the murder went scot-free. Even though Annalise Keating maneuverer their cases in their favour, karma still went after them, and they all died mysterious death.

  • To finish it all, the place of proper family/child upbringing is important. A child from a dysfunctional home would also have a dysfunctional behaviour. They are mostly characterized with various psychological defect ranging from, bitterness, anger, violence, selfishness, emotional imbalance, to mention but few due to the fact that they never experienced necessary love only a home can give. That the case of Sam, Hannah, Frank, Wes, Michaela, Conor, Laurel, Bonnie, Annalise. They were all embittered about their past, they never had a good childhood experience and it indeed haunted them. Take Bonnie as an example. She was abused by her biological father at age 5. How would she ever trust a male gender in her entire life. More reason she never thought twice before killing Ron Miller the one person that showed her love.

To conclude my review I'd just say that the beginning was a bit too much to digest, the henceforth seasons are just enticingly captivating, and the end is just so unimaginably sentimental that it has left me in tears. Indeed, how to get away with murder is worth the time. I encourage those who have not seen it to do.
