It's Okay to Not Be Okay

A scene from its okay not to be okay

Genre: Romantic, Comedy

Director: Park Shin Woo

Rating: 3.5/5

This show, commonly known as a kdrama, is about an extraordinary road to emotional healing which opens up for a selfish, antisocial children's book writer and a selfless, psych ward caretaker when they cross paths.

There is also a heart-warming brother of caretaker who is also autistic. He plays a huge role in every decision that that caretaker, Moon Gang Tae takes. His brother, Moon Sang Tae's feelings, thoughts and needs are very important to Moon Gang Tae. Though he is the younger one but due to his brother's condition and trauma that he has been facing after he witnessed his mother's murder, he has to act like the older brother and take care of his older brother. He has a very love and hate kind of a relation with his brother.

Due to his brother, caretaker Moon Gang Tae has been moving from town to town very often. Until circumstances lead them to Seongjin City which is where they used to live when they were young. Moon Gang Tae started working at a hospital there. In that hospital, Children book writer, Ko Moon Young’s father has been shifted from another hospital. Moon Gang Tae met Ko Moon Young at the hospital but soon after meeting him, she realized that she could not manipulate him like she does everyone else and that intrigues her very much. Thus she keeps following Moon Gang Tae around. There were many more twists and turns in the drama but for that you have to watch this drama.

If we talk about this drama from creative perspective, director has given a really creative look to the show and the way, he has incorporated a fairy tale to explain the character's feelings and actions in each of the episodes is really new and unique. Right from the first episode, I was pulled in and I really didn't want it to end. I love the fact that they didn't just show the Sang Tae's (the older autistic brother) as just an additional character. I loved the growth they showed in especially his character which kind of as result helped (Moon Gang Tae) Kim Soo Hyun's character grow as well.

The relationship between the three literally gave me all the feels, from happiness, adoration (especially when Moon Yong and Sang Tae use to argue cutely), sadness, etc. The growth of the older brother's character and him realizing and trying to act like an older brother to his younger brother made me happy teary so many times. I don't even need to talk about the amazing chemistry between Kim Soo Hyun and Seo Ye Ji, but I will because it was so perfect. They both were so cute together and every scene showed their amazing acting skills.

They all fit their roles so well. Kim Soo Hyun (Moon Gang Tae) as a gentle yet strong caregiver was literally perfection from his mannerisms to the way he delivered the dialogues. The same goes for Seo Ye Ji (Ko Moon Young). She was so elegant yet fearless. Also, her outfits and styling in this drama were so beautiful. There wasn't a single outfit she didn't pull off. A lot of shows have female leads wearing amazing clothes but something that made me love her character and this show overall, even more, was how they explained why she dresses up so much and justified it as a coping mechanism, that was really something special.

I loved all the stories they made in this drama, and they were so different from anything I've ever watched before. From the start, the relationship between the two brothers was really commendable. The actor who plays Sang Tae really deserves an award for his acting in this show. Overall, it was an amazing and unique show which everyone should watch.
