Anne with an E is a remaining of the classic coming-of-age story Anne of Green Gables about an imaginative orphan who's adopted by elderly siblings. This show's focus is less thee lighthearted missteps L.M. Montgomery's impulsive young Anne and more how her circumstances continue to cause her grief among those she meets in her new hometown. Concerns common to the timing of this 19-th-century story - hunger, verbal abuse, financial strain, and even the farming culture -- may seem foreign to some kids who watch, but the issues that affect Anne most directly are relevant today. She's bullied ignored, and underestimated because of people's first impressions of her orphan status, and she faces prejudice at every turn. This and other emotional matters are central to this unique interpretation of the Green Gables story, so its not necessary a great fit for young kids who have seen other productions about Anne. That said, she remains an exceptional role model for her ability to overcome adversity and remain true to her identity, and in this story she also emerges as a champion for then-foreign cause of gender equality.
This is perhaps one of the best shows I have seen in many years with regard to showing the true real life human spirit. The acting by every single actor playing the role from child to the oldest is simply superb! And the way the director and it’s writers present the story with its many facets and personalities as well as how the scenes unfold is nothing short of some of the best storytelling I have ever seen. I am so impressed it with all the actors and was almost surprised to see as each season unfolds how it gets better and better while many other programs struggle to find a way of keeping the story alive from season to season. My only regret is that a season has just 10 episodes. I could watch this easily with 50-100 episodes a year although I know that making such a season would be impossible. The show keeps you wanting and waiting to see more. I hope season 4 gets here soon!
